Early 20th century Tiffany Studios lamps were auctioned in New York and are featured in a sale report in Kovels on Antiques and Collectibles September 2015 newsletter. See pictures, descriptions and prices of classic Tiffany Studios lamps with leaded glass shades and bronze bases that sold for high prices, including the top lot Oriental Poppy floor lamp that went for a whopping and record-setting $1,066,000. Classic chairs designed by Charles and Ray Eames sold at auction in Chicago. As stylish and useful today as when they were designed in the 1940s to the early ’60s, a sampling of Eames chairs is pictured with prices in Kovels’ September issue. More than 50 wooden bowls and vases were included in a North Carolina auction, where prices peaked at $10,890 for a mushroom-shaped vase carved from Georgia Purple Pine. Woodenware has turned from a hobby to an art form and Kovels’ September newsletter pictures works by significant contemporary wood turners, along with auction prices.
Antique canes and walking sticks were made for more than just walking. A Massachusetts auction featured a collection of canes wanted for their makers, materials or hidden gadgets. Ranging from a Fabergé cane with a green nephrite handle decorated with a ruby and diamonds that brought $11,800 to an ivory cane with a mushroom knob decorated with a carved housefly going for $236, Kovels’ September sale report helps collectors get a better handle on antique canes. And Kovels’ covers 19th century Jacquard coverlets auctioned in Pennsylvania, where prices ranged from $74 to $904. Many of the coverlets had the weaver’s signature, and some included the owner’s name, initials, county and date.
Terry Kovel goes “on the road” with two special antiques to the Antique Roadshow Cleveland appraisal event. The popular illustrated Collector’s Gallery answers readers’ questions about a Staffordshire toby jug, a cast iron toy boat, a 19th-century wooden matchbox and a Coca-Cola bowl. September’s Dictionary of Marks lists marks used by makers of vintage jewelry with rhinestones. And prices of dozens of antiques and collectibles are listed in the Buyer’s Price Guide.

Looking to see if I have any postcards that might have some value
I have been in the Antique business for over 40 years. I recently received the invitation to subscribe to your new monthly publication. The informative tip sheet that was included in this invitation was wonderful. Good usable tips and information. I assumed the monthly issue would be something like this. Boy was I mistaken! Instead I got the first issue today that would more rightly qualify as a museum brochure. It was filled with beautiful pics of items that you would most likely not ever see unless you went to a museum. It’s really pretty but not of much use to the everyday dealer or collector. Its pretty, I was just so disappointed…. I was hoping it would be something like the late Antique Trader Publication we subscribed to years ago. With the market changing like it has in the last few years it would be refreshing to have a monthly publication with articles that more aptly related to the everyday antique and collectibles business…
