Q: Can you could tell anything about this wooden matchbox that was passed down to me? I was told it came from the 1855 shipwreck of Katherine Shearer off the coast of Tasmania. It still has matches in it. The label says “Superior Congreve Matches from one of the greatest and most famous German manufactories.” The label is torn at the bottom but the name looks like “F.C. Deig.”
