The most expensive wristwatch ever sold at auction brought $11 million at a Phillips Geneva Watch Auction in November 2016. It is a 1943 stainless steel Patek Philippe watch, one of four known to exist. The Reference 1518 perpetual calendar chronograph watch includes a moon phase indicator, Arabic hour markers and a tachymeter scale. The wristwatch, estimated to sell for $3 million, had bids from all over the world. The previous price for the most expensive wristwatch ever sold, also a Patek Philippe, was $7.3 million. It is hard for the average person to realize that a group of wristwatch collectors from all over the world are so very rich. There were eight bidders at $7 million, then two bidders fought to the final $9.7 million. It took 13 minutes. The final $11 million price includes the buyer’s premium.
