Mattel, maker of Barbie and the world’s largest toymaker, lost its legal fight with MGA Entertainment, maker of the Bratz doll. Mattel said the Bratz doll, with her big head and fashionable clothing, was created by a former employee who took it to MGA. The trial started in 2004 and cost Mattel about $400 million. See-saw verdicts gave Mattel $100 million in 2008, then an appeals court overturned that verdict. After a retrial last month, a jury gave MGA $88.4 million in damages. Bratz dolls were not sold in 2008-09, but were back on store shelves in 2010.
