Banksy, the mysterious graffiti artist from London, has been making his amazing murals in New York City this month. On October 12, 2013, he set up a booth in Central Park (but didn’t man the booth himself) selling black and white “spray art” pictures, originals worth thousands of dollars, for $60 each. Only seven pictures were sold, two to a woman for her child’s room at a 50 percent discount, one to a tourist from New Zealand, and four to a man from Chicago. He took in a total $420. Banksy art is selling for huge prices. Experts estimate that if the sales had been made in an art gallery, they would have reached $225,000. We hope the buyers see the video report of their purchases and get a copy to prove they have an original and very valuable Banksy picture. (See also Kovels Komments of March 13 and May 22, 2013.)

And this is the beauty of art, OR antiques and collectibles: what appeals to one doesn’t always appeal to another. That’s what makes collecting fun and your very own, personal treasure hunt. If you’re only interested in the things that are “hyped”, you are simply feeding avarice, not experiencing the love of real collecting.
…that art is subjective. In a gallery hype is involved, on the street personal taste.
