It's a cut glass - knife rest - can rest the knife blade on it after you carve the turkey.

It is a knife holder that sits next to your plate. The knife goes on the holder to prevent butter from getting on the table cloth.

It is knife holder that sits by a dinner plate. You put your knife on this to keep butter off of the table cloth.

It is a knife rest. It was used to hold a knife at the dinner table while the knife was not in use.

It's an Early American Pattern Glass (EAPG) knife rest. The pattern doesn't appear to be sharp enough to be American Brilliant Cut.

I collect American Brilliant Period cut glass (1875-1915), and this is a cut glass KNIFE REST.
