I have a similar chunky style candy/finger bowl which is light greenish/yellow in color but it glows bright orange in color under black light which means the glass was made with manganese instead of uranium oxide (for Vaseline Glass) that glows green.

I wish Kovels would take the time to explain, clarification for those who obviously don't know, the difference between Vaseline and Uranium glass. There is a big difference. Can you help the uninformed, please?

This is a Vaseline glass master salt. It is the master salt because the other salt cellars are not that large. According to my grandma who collected salts the master salt set in the middle of the table and the smaller salt cellars were a part of setting the table. The guest or family would get their salt from the master salt according to their needs from the master salt. Vaseline glasscontains uranium which makes it glow blue in a dark room with a black light held behind it.

It's an individual open salt - made of a Vaseline glass. Each person would get a dish of salt and a tiny spoon at their seat.
