The Kovels’ Top Twenty list is based on the results of hundreds of thousands of searches that took place on Kovels.com during February 2010.Occupied Japan is still on top, proving Kovels.com is one of the web’s best sources for Occupied Japan collectibles prices.

The top 20 searches “wiggled” last month and eleven categories moved up or down a few notches. New this month is MZ Austria, climbing in at 19th place. Another category that has not been seen recently is Royal Dux, now at 15. Clinging to 20th and last place on the list is Collector Plate.

The market for collector plates like Christmas and Mothers Day annual plates and sets of specially designed plates that sold for ever-rising prices in the 1970s and 1980s, has almost vanished. Common plates sell for a few dollars. Plates by well known makers like Royal Copenhagen sell for better prices. The plates made from 1895 to about 1920 sell well. So do some from the 1940s war years when fewer plates were made.

This 1927 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate cost $100 at Replacements Ltd. Other plates by the same maker sell for retail prices from $15 to $6,649.
