Q: I have a plate with this circular mark with “OEPIAG” and crossed hammers. Can you tell me whose mark this is?

A: The letters “OEPIAG” stand for Osterreichische Porzellan Industrie AG (Austrian Porcelain Industry), an association of four porcelain factories formed by the Austrian government in 1918. The crossed hammers mark is the mark of one of the companies, Fischer & Mieg, located in Pirkenhammer, Bohemia. The mark on your plate was used from 1918 to 1920, when the name of the association was changed to Erste Bhemische Porzellan Industrie AG (First Bohemian Porcelain Industry) and the initials EPIAG were used.

I have a small vase (5-5/8″h) that has just the crossed hammers mark, but not the circle with OEPIAG. What is that?
