Stooping to conquer—street style. What’s the latest trend among New York City’s most stylish? Stooping. People put large items like furniture outside on their stoops or the streets outside to be picked up with their garbage—or taken by passersby. Stooping, or taking the pieces left out for the garbage, saves usable items from the landfill and is a source of free home furnishings—a win-win situation! Sometimes it turns up a treasure. An Instagram account devoted to stooping recently showed a picture of a figural tulip lamp that had been left out for the trash. It turned out to be a 1980s piece designed by Peter Bliss, currently valued at about $4,000.
