Special colorful Campbell’s tomato soup cans are now available at some Target stores. Four different labels inspired by the famous Andy Warhol paintings are available on new cans. For 75 cents you can buy the can, open it carefully from the bottom to preserve the label, pour out the soup and eat it, then save the limited-edition can. It may go up in value, although 1.2 million cans are being sold. A similar promotion was done in 2004 and 2006 and although we saved the empty cans, we have not seen any sold for high prices. But they do make a puzzling display on a kitchen shelf.
Yes, I would also like to find out if I should leave the cans unopened or what is the best method of opening, so as not to detract from future value. Thank you!
Bought a slew of these after none available at local Target. Why do the Kovels suggest opening can from bottom? I phoned Campbells and this is a two piece can. Is the value diminished greatly by opening the can from the top? Is this aesthetics? I inquired of someone handy who said if I drilled the bottom there would be shards of metal in my soup which could be dangerous. Please explain if any future value is in opened or full cans of soup. Colorful, nonetheless.
How long has it been since you opened a can of Campbell’s Soup? It’s been over a year since they made a can that you can open from the bottom. The bottom of the cans are now rounded on the edges, no way you can open them with a can opener! I miss the old cans, the new ones have a stupd ridge on the top that makes it hard to get all the contents out.
and save yourself a high dose of sodium and just put these on the shelf, as is. As Art. RIP Andy Warhol…hopin’ you would have loved this!
