Dear Lee,
We may collect and write about the old, but we keep changing to the newest ways to inform our readers. New technology makes pictures better, information available faster, and expands the number of sources. I still like to read the printed morning paper that’s delivered to my door even though my city wants us as online customers. We already offer the newsletter in print or digital form and are working to add value and more information to both. You may have noticed a slight editorial change. Sales reports now include more comments from experts, more information about additional ways to look for further information through specialty clubs, museums, and library books too old to be easily found in online searches.
The Kovels’ 2015-2016 newsletter index is now available free to Kovels’ subscribers, online, or if requested, in print, to make the newsletter even more valuable as a saved research source. Only newsletter subscribers get exclusive detailed information on sales and trends as well as national news snippets, record prices, and strange happenings in our hotlines. The newsletter concentrates on price, why high or low, what’s going up, and how to learn more. In this issue, our fruit jars report explains why pints usually sell for more than quarts. You learn why colored bottles, especially cobalt, are high-priced, that original lids add value, and that jars found by digging (dug) can be valuable. And there is exclusive information by bottle expert Jim Hagenbuch and me.
We have been more active on social media. Facebook will have a Kovels’ “Whatsit” each Wednesday with the answer appearing later in the week. Instagram will show interesting visuals related to collecting and recognizing great quality. You can join me roaming shows, visiting museums or collections, or finding new ways to take care of my collections. My tweets will reminisce, complain, or praise a part of the collecting world or even respond to tweets by others. Let’s connect!
