If you wash the carpet or an old rag rug and it is still damp, don’t walk on it. If you must get across the room, make a path of pieces of waxed paper.

When unscrewing a glass door or drawer knob, protect the glass part. Get a piece of thin rubber, like part of an old inner tube, and wrap it around the metal base of the glass knob. It will provide a better grip for your pliers when you try to turn the knob and will also protect the glass and metal from scratches.

Don’t store fabrics in cardboard boxes or plastic. The fabrics will yellow and may mildew. Use archival boxes.

Join with your neighbors to keep informed about workmen who might be using a ladder or trying to get into a garage. Call the police if you are suspicious.
