Old beaded bags should be stored flat. Wrap them in acid-free paper. Do not hang the bags, because they are so heavy they can pull apart from their own weight.

Save the small packets that keep pills dry inside prescription bottles. Put the packets in a corner of the drawer where your silverware is stored to prevent tarnish-creating moisture.

Dishwasher detergents are not kind to 19th-century pressed glass and other old glassware. We were using some Moon & Star pattern sauce dishes and noticed that a few are showing wear on the flat part of the bottom. The worn areas are not scratches, but seem to be rough spots on the original sheen. Now the bottoms look dull. We blame the dishwasher.

Don’t serve food on a repaired plate. It could be a health hazard.
