We always like to read Hints from Heloise because we knew the columnist’s mother, the original Heloise. When the first Heloise died in 1977, her daughter continued the column and made it more useful than ever. This month she updated some cleaning tips: Because ink and hairspray formulas have changed, she says you should remove ballpoint ink stains with rubbing alcohol, not hairspray. To take dried candle wax off a carpet, freeze it by putting a pan of ice on top of it, then hit the frozen wax to break it up. Remove the pieces, vacuum, and treat the area with carpet stain remover.
