Color can help date costume jewelry. It was made to go with the fashions of the day. Pale purple glass, amethyst, and opals were popular about 1910. Crystal, black, silver, and bright colors like red, yellow, blue, and green were used in the 1920s. Bright stones and rhinestones were in vogue in the 1930s. Red, white, and blue were popular in the war years of the 1940s. Turquoise, coral, red, royal blue, and other strong colors were used in the 1950s and ’60s.

Don’t soak dishes in chlorine bleach to remove a stain. It damages the glaze. Years ago we recommended this treatment, but we know better today. And never use Limeaway or other bathroom cleaners. They, too, ruin the glaze.
