Don’t try to wash and clean vintage glass Christmas ornaments. The paint could easily flake off. Just dust.

Some don’ts if you’re using vintage or brand new dinnerware: Don’t rinse the dishes; new detergents are made to remove food. Don’t stack plates; they’ll scratch. Don’t stack cups; they’ll chip. Don’t use serrated steak knives; they scratch plates. And don’t microwave anything with gold, silver or platinum trim.

Did you notice a white ring or patch on your wooden tabletop after a dinner party? Mound table salt on the spot to draw out the moisture causing the whiteness. Put a terrycloth towel on top of the salt and warm it with an iron or hair dryer set on low heat. Keep checking the stain until all the moisture is gone—along with the stain.

To clean a chandelier, try this: Put on a pair of white cotton gloves and dampen one glove with a liquid window cleaner. Wipe each crystal with the damp glove, then with the dry one. Wipe the metal parts and wiring with a dry cloth.
