Dating Old Furniture

If you have what you hope is an old, perhaps 18th-century, piece of furniture, try this dating tip. Pull the drawers out and put them back upside down. Each drawer should move back and forth as easily as it did right-side-up. Old-time cabinetmakers made the corners of drawers and openings exactly square. Later repairs may have made corners not quite as exact.
