If your furniture has been caught in a flood or even if water has just been spilled from a vase of flowers, watch out for mold. Dry the piece as soon as possible. Then add a tablespoon of Clorox to a quart of warm water, dampen a cloth with the mixture, and wipe the furniture a few times. Let it dry 48 hours. Then use a paste wax. Do not use oil or anything that contains silicone. If upholstered furniture is soaked in a flood, let it dry and then see if the frame is worth reupholstering. Water-soaked fabric will soon become smelly or torn.
