Meerschaum

An expensive meerschaum pipe is made from a solid piece of mined meerschaum, a light-colored natural compound that can float. An inexpensive pipe is made from pieces of meerschaum that were pressed together. Rub a wet finger on good meerschaum and it will absorb the moisture. The pieced meerschaum will not.
