Keep complete written records of where and when you bought your treasures, how much you paid, and any history or additional information along with the date it was created. Take a picture when you buy it that shows condition. It all adds to the price when you sell.

Also, when you pass, those who inherit will know the item’s history & whether it was inherited, cost at purchase, etc. Keep info & pictures in organized album.

My Uncle left me not only their collections of Carnival Glass and Art Pottery, but also index cards to match the inventory number of hundreds of pieces. He listed where he bought it, when, price asked, price paid, maker, color(s). pattern, and hand drawn pictures of it on the back. He gave me his collection of Price Guides and books. He noted on cards lists of which book, year and authors had mentioned the item. Thank you so much Uncle Chet.
