Follow all the safety rules for fires that you were taught in school. A smoke alarm is mandatory in many cities and should be in every home near the kitchen, at the top of the stairs and near bedrooms. Keep a hand-held fire extinguisher in your kitchen, near paper collectibles and near your books.
