I have been carrying an old flute with me for the last 22 years. When it was given to me, the only details I was given was that the lady who dropped it off at the church was born in the 1890’s and it was made for her father before she was born.

I have tried repeatedly to try and find a story about the flute or it’s value. There are only 2 markings on it and neither of them seem to come up with any hits on the web. If anyone has any ideas on where to go to research this, I would greatly appreciate it.

I am a Vintage Instrument Dealer and could help you with your Flute. I would need information such as. What is it made out of. dimensions, number of holes. All markings, is it mechanical or just have holes in it. The case, anything that can help me in finding out more about it. Many instruments are like a game .It could have been made by a small maker ,a small company, with little information but photos will help immensely. Some pop up in auction houses that list them in the books they publish but even the books cost allot of money so I buy them and save them. No detail is to small so tell me everything you can about it and I will do my best to help you. I will not charge you as I enjoy the challenge of it but usually charge in the case of someone needing a document for insurance purposes. I research all types of musical instruments but specialize in Vintage Guitars,Violins,Banjos,Mandolins,Ukes,Saxophones and orchestral instruments. Old flutes are a strange breed as they do not always have high values but can in cases where the quality is clear, the makers instruments are sought after or it is unique in one way or another. It’s value is what one person will pay for it even if another person would not. I try to be very accurate about values in general even though a instrument in exceptional condition may fetch a premium that can exaggerate the value of most of them in just Ex condition. Every type of instrument has different criteria as to their value and I take all things into consideration. Thank You Steve at American Musical Instruments Email sassanostevec@yahoo.com .I will publish the results in this forum if it is OK with the Kovels as I do not want to stray outside the rules of the forum they have so graciously offered us. Thank You Steve Sassano
