Inherited this necklace/broach. Could it be bone or just plastic? Fairly light weight, and about 2.5 inches in height.
I love it but concerned about care of it if it is something other than plastic. Regardless I’m sure only a cord when worn as a necklace? I don’t think I would put a clasp back on it.
There, added photos! There is texture to the piece, and ‘striations’ on the back. If it is plastic its well done to look like bone or something.
Any opinions would be welcome! Thanks.

I will look forward to seeing your items !! If no glow you can assume its a plastic or resin of some type !! Still nice though and will be great to wear !!My opinion is,, clothing and jewelry should be fun,, not something you have to worry about constantly !!

Tried the black light…no glowings!! Thank you for your expertise and quick responses. I will wear my necklace with pride and not worry about damaging/losing an expensive heirloom! I’ve marked this as resolved. You may see me again with other things I’ve inherited!

I bow to your knowledge! 😉 I thought as much, but wanted confirmation. This means I can wear it without worrying! Thank you for information on care etc. I will do a black light in a day or so, I have one at work. I’ll let you know! Regards!

Most quality ivory or bone carvings you could not feel the striations !! Bone does not have any you could feel, neither does ivory !! The striations in bone are in the cellular structure,,you can see them but not feel them !! The cast resin items are made that way so that you will think they are genuine !!
Try the black light and see what it looks like,,then let me know !! As far as care,, just a lightly damp soft cloth if soiled,,otherwise just wipe with the dry soft cloth is all that is necessary !!
An appraisal would cost more than the value of the item,,I would not do that !!
