I have several pink stems which would be beautiful, but my friend had them wrapped in plain white paper used for packing delicates for moving. When she unwrapped them they had a white film on certain areas. I have tried everything to clean the film off….. vinegar soaks, household cleaners, baking powder paste, acetone etc. Nothing seems to work. The white film stains ruin the glass.
Can anyone suggest anything which may be useful………….

I did some checking around and only things I found were either a chemical reaction of some sort (unlikely) or,a dishwasher !! Many of the pink so called depression glass pieces are reproduction and were made in the late 60`s and 70`s !! It is thinner and lighter weight than the older pieces are !! A dishwasher and detergent used in them is powerful enough to damage this newer glass !! No vintage glassware should be put in a dishwasher !! If your friend put them in a dishwasher then packed them before they air dried completely she may not have seen this staining !! Try spraying a cloth with WD 40 and using your finger rub the stained parts only, not the etched area and see what happens !!
