I recently purchased wood carving at an estate sale and am trying to find the value of this item. I have searched the internet and cannot find this wood carving of a man sitting on a pile books and reading a book. There is a sticker on the bottom of the base that reads Handgeschnitzt whom I believe is the person who did the carving. It also reads Oberammergau which I have determined is a town in Germany known for it wood carvings. This carving is 12 inches tall. Base measures 4″ x 3 1/2″. I have attached 2 photos showing the carving and the sticker. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Newbie here, but thought I would see if I could help find an answer for you. After having such amazing good luck finding figurines similar to yours, and because of viewing so many carvings and the word Handgeschnitzt, I decided to look up the meaning of the word Handgeschnitzt. The word means “hand carved” in German.

My takeaway: Before I strike out on a Cyberspace mission, I will become familiar with unfamiliar words.

All is not lost though, I did find the mark you uploaded on a beautiful hand- carved woman, and I found some male figurines that could have been carved by the person that carved yours. Most of the links included here will take you to those male wood carvings, and of course, the hand-carved lady mentioned above.
I am sorry I didn’t find more for you, but maybe the carved lady will point you in the right direction. Best of luck, Vickie

That means Hand Carved in Oberammergau Germany !! If you look you will notice the center mark has an O on the left for the town name and a G on the right for Germany !!
There are many local artisans that do wood carvings there !! Since these are not done in mass I doubt you will find another like it !! Each would be an original work by that artist !! However they may carve similar ones !!

Thank you very much for the feedback and quick response to my question..
