I recently purchased wood carving at an estate sale and am trying to find the value of this item. I have searched the internet and cannot find this wood carving of a man sitting on a pile books and reading a book. There is a sticker on the bottom of the base that reads Handgeschnitzt whom I believe is the person who did the carving. It also reads Oberammergau which I have determined is a town in Germany known for it wood carvings. This carving is 12 inches tall. Base measures 4″ x 3 1/2″. I have attached 2 photos showing the carving and the sticker. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
That means Hand Carved in Oberammergau Germany !! If you look you will notice the center mark has an O on the left for the town name and a G on the right for Germany !!
There are many local artisans that do wood carvings there !! Since these are not done in mass I doubt you will find another like it !! Each would be an original work by that artist !! However they may carve similar ones !!
