Gardner Porcelain Works was founded in Verbiki, outside Moscow, by the English-born Francis Gardner in 1766. Empress Catherine II commissioned Gardner Porcelain Works to make the four famous Order Services in the 1770s and 1780s. The Gardner family retained ownership of the factory until 1891 and produced porcelain tablewares, figurines, and faience.
