To clean a lithographed tin container or tray, use car wax that is a cleaning and waxing product meant for an automobile so it does not scratch. Test a corner of the tin by rubbing a bit of the car wax on with a soft, damp cloth. The yellow wax will change to dark brown as the dirt is removed. If the rag turns any other color, stop; you are removing color from the tin. After cleaning, just buff, do not rinse.
