Ten thousand British pounds ($15,500) was the auction price of a rare Wemyss (pronounced “weems”) pottery sleeping pig that recently sold in Edinburgh, Scotland. Wemyss Ware, made in Scotland around the turn of the 20th century, is very popular in England and Scotland, but not many pieces are seen at U.S. auctions. We listed a sleeping pig in the 2009 edition of “Kovels’ Antiques & Collectibles Price Guide” for $16,739. Most popular are the standing pig figures with floral or fruit decoration. They usually sell for $300 to $7,500, depending on age and size.
