Rocky Mountain Treasure Chest Found!
What was hidden is now found: After a decade of searching by thousands of treasure hunters, a chest filled with gold, rubies, emeralds and diamonds has been found in the Rocky Mountains. The treasure was hidden by Forrest Fenn, an 89-year-old art and antiquities collector who created the treasure hunt to “inspire people to explore nature and give hope to people affected by the Great Recession.” He put clues leading to the treasure’s location in a 24-line poem published in his 2010 autobiography “The Thrill of the Chase.”
Fenn made the announcement this week on his website https://www.oldsantafetradingco.com/ that the chest was found by someone who wants to be anonymous. Fenn told a local newspaper that the man was from “back East” and he confirmed the discovery by sending Fenn a photograph of the riches.
Fenn said that as many as 350,000 people from all over the world went hunting for the treasure. Some quit their jobs to search full-time, two people died, two have been rescued near death, several have had run-ins with local and federal law enforcement.

What a wonderful way to get people out and explore our wonderful Country and have fun doing it. I doubt very seriously that any natural resources were “harmed”…..you act like these treasure hunters brought in earth moving equipment! God put this earth here for us to use and enjoy, not worship. Granted we need to protected it from serious pollution like dumping hazardous waste into the waterways. But some do not want even want a flower picked! Digging up dirt and looking for treasure is NOT harmful to the environment at all! I am sure animals move more earth to make a den to live in than any human “disturbing” any earth.
“He expressed total indifference about the 2 people who died in his social experiment”. Only a idiot would see it that way…OMG the drama! Apparently they died doing what they loved to do.! Sad they died but each and every one of us needs to take responsibility for our actions. Why do people go out into the desert for a hike unprepared? Or go diving alone? We have millions of square miles of wilderness to explore…..get going!
The death of anyone is unfortunate, but it is understood the treasure seekers willingly undertook the risks. I didn’t read that any natural resources were “dug up” or harmed in any way. Only two people know for sure so far. I’m curious how one expresses indifference; the terms seem incongruent to me. I collect boxes and would love to have this one!
