If your mother threw this toy away when you moved out of home, be prepared to cry. A rare Yonezawa Diamond Planet Robot made in the early 1960s with a blue body and red arms recently sold at Milestone Auctions for $32,400. The sparking robot with chrome accents and gauges on his chest still has its original googly eyes and key. It is still sparks. It sold with a reproduction box. Only a few examples of the Diamond Planet robot have ever come to market. Robot toys were extremely popular in the 1950s and ’60s, when space exploration was just beginning. Japanese toymakers created space toys modeled on real astronauts, science fiction characters or just their imaginations. Yonezawa was a successful Japanese toy robot manufacturer of the late 1950s to 1970s.
