Petroliana, automobilia and advertising collectors, check what you have in your basement. The “holy grail” for gasoline collectors, a 48-inch double-sided porcelain Musgo Gasoline Michigan’s Mile Maker sign, just sold for $1,350,000 through Richmond Auctions. Both sides of the sign, which has an American Indian’s profile, have bright and glossy colors. One side has no dents or blemishes. The other side has only a tiny dent. The sign is marked Veribrite Signs Chicago. Musgo Gasoline, based in Muskegon, Michigan, was open for less than six months during the mid-1920s. After Musgo’s closing, it is believed most of its signs were used as septic tank lids, causing one side to decay from septic fumes.
