Change is coming to the game of Monopoly, created in 1935. Hasbro is retiring one of the game’s tokens and asking the public to choose the one to discard and the design of a new one. The six original tokens were a thimble, ship, shoe, cannon, top hat, and iron. Changes were made from time to time, and there have been tokens shaped like a wheelbarrow, racecar, purse, Scottie dog, lantern, rocking horse, and rider on a horse. The original tokens were made of metal, Bakelite, or wood. In 1999 a special gold-colored bag of money was added. You can vote against one of the current tokens–a battleship, iron, racecar, Scottie dog, shoe, thimble, top hat, and wheelbarrow–and vote for the new suggestions: a robot, helicopter, cat, guitar, or diamond ring. Collectors of Monopoly games know that the tokens help to date the old games. Vote until Feb. 5, 2013, on the Monopoly Facebook page.

I also agree with all the comments above, and also have that “3 people unfriended me” comment, and I too, am NOT on Facebook for the same reason as ladyleadfoot. This particular vote irritates me, as I have an original Monopoly board game with the original tokens, which I have always liked. Why change the tokens? Change just for change sake…….Sign me “annoyed” by the whole thing!
I totally agree with both of the previous comments.
At the top it says 3 people “unfriended” me. Not possible since I have not and will not join facebook. As for the choosing of a new Monopoly token, it is unfair to require you to be a facebook member to make a choice. I absolutely refuse to compromise my computer by using it.
Facebook, facebook, facebook. I don’t “do” facebook. Wish all the companies that use facebook would give us who don’t an alternative way to comment. Personallt, I would vote for the cat, if I could!
