Barbie may have turned 60 this year, but she is certainly not letting grass grow beneath her pointy feet. She is working to inspire a new generation of young girls to dream beyond stereotypes by modeling every profession from surgeon to news anchor to veterinarian. And she can now lay claim to representing the Civil Rights movement and space exploration.

Mattel this week announced two new Barbies: Historical female role models Rosa Parks and Sally Ride. Rosa Parks was an American activist known as the Mother of the Modern Civil Rights movement and Sally Ride was the first American woman – and youngest American – to fly in space. They are for sale at Barbie.com for $30.99 each.

Each doll comes with educational material about each woman’s contributions to society, authentic clothing and accessories. Because of their historic importance, we think they will be wanted by future collectors.
