“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” was a groundbreaking book for children written 55 years ago by Dr. Seuss. The author, whose real name is Theodor Seuss Geisel, was an advertising illustrator in the 1920s who did ads for Schaefer Beer, Flit bug killer, General Electric, Ford Motor, NBC, Standard Oil, Esso and even war bonds. Original artwork for the children’s books and first editions are pricey today, but pages of Seuss magazine ads are affordable. And if you keep looking, you might find a Flit bug sprayer for a reasonable price.
