There is now some question about the past ownership of Abraham Lincoln’s stovepipe hat. It has been in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois, since 2007. It has the right labels, is the right size, and has been owned by one family for 100 years. But no one can prove it was worn by Lincoln or given by Lincoln to the family. There are no newspaper reports, no photographs, and no letters to authenticate it.
