Looking for an unusual Valentine’s Day gift that is, quite literally, out of this world? How about a heart-shaped meteor that fell from the skies and smashed into Siberia in 1947? It blazed a path “brighter than the sun” and broke into smaller meteorites before crash landing. One of those meteorites by happenstance (isn’t all love happenstance?) broke into the shape of a heart. Christie’s auction house is offering it for sale, just in time for someone looking for that perfect Valentine’s Day gift.

Like someone falling in love for the first time, this meteor fell hard, shattering windows, ripping trees out by the roots, creating 85-foot-wide craters and causing a sonic boom felt for 200 miles. Dubbed the “Heart of Space” by Christie’s, the meteorite probably split apart from a larger meteor at a high altitude, making it puckered, but still somewhat aerodynamic.

Bids on the meteorite, obtained from New York’s Macovich Collection of Meteorites, close, appropriately, on Valentine’s Day. The buyer’s commitment better be forever, however. The auction house expects it to sell for between $300,000 to $500,000.
