Barbie doll collectors probably should take a look at the 15 new looks Mattel has created for Ken. Some may surprise you. Ken is now — or soon will be — available in seven skin tones, three body shapes and nine hair-dos, like cornrows or a man bun. He is now available with a body that is the original, slim, or broad (could that be fat or a “Dad-bod”?). Each has appropriate clothing made to fit the body shape and hair style. We don’t think the new-look Kens can borrow outfits from each other. So there are 15 different Ken dolls being made using combinations of his three body shapes, seven skin tones, eight hair colors and nine hair styles.
They could have a bald Ken or he could have a beard.
Kids like dolls that look like them but this many variations would expensive to market, so have to wonder who Mattel is making these for…
I was a past user of the product. If these parents that are buying these they are racial profiling for their kids. Believe me the child does not see the color of the skin, or hair style on the doll. All the child cares about is the outfits, and where their imagination will take them.
Ken with a man-bun. That’s just not right – lol.
There’s nothing wrong with that. Barbie has undergone many changes to keep her modern. Not all men look like the Ken doll – at least not any more than women having her figure! Variety is good.
