Q: I have a covered vegetable bowl in very good shape with a stamp on the bottom that says “Shenandoah Ware, The Paden City Pottery, Made in U.S.A., underglaze, D-45.” I’ve been unable to find a comparable item anywhere and am hoping you can give me more information.

A: Paden City Pottery was in business in Paden City, West Virginia, from 1914 to 1963. The company made semi-porcelain dinnerware. The Shenandoah Ware line was made in plain colors and with six different decorations. This is one of Paden City’s unnamed patterns. Many online sellers list is as “poppies.” It was made beginning in 1947. We’ve seen plates in this pattern listed at $10. A Shenandoah Ware covered vegetable bowl in a similar design with morning glories instead of poppies was offered for sale at $20.
