Q: I’m trying to find out more about this teacup and saucer. It’s marked with a crown above the initials “RGK” and “Czechoslovakia.” Can you tell me the maker and the year they were made?

A: This mark was used by Rudolf Kämpf of Grünlas, Czechoslovakia, between 1928 and 1938. The company traces its roots to 1907, when a porcelain factory was established in Grünlas. The factory became Porcelain Factory Rudolf Kämpf G.m.b.H., Grünlas, in 1911 and operated under that name until 1945. It is still in business in the same town, although the name of the town was changed from Grünlas to Loučky in 1918 and Czechoslovakia became Czech Republic in 1960. Rudolf Kämpf continues to make porcelain items by hand, as well as mass-produced porcelain and tableware for restaurants and hotels.

One response to “RGK”

I was born in Prague and my family and I escaped Czechoslovakia in 1964 when it was still a Communist country. The country became liberated when the Communist regime collapsed under the Velvet Revolution on Jan. 1, 1993. At this time the independent states of Czech Republic and Slovakia formed. Your comment above about when the change of name to the Czech Republic occurred is incorrect.
