Q: I didn’t find this mark on your great list. Can you help?

A: The mark was used by Pfaltzgraff Co., a pottery in York, Pennsylvania. The pottery was founded in 1811 by George Pfaltzgraff, a German immigrant. He made stoneware crocks, jugs, and other items. The company began making dinnerware in the 1940s. Pfaltzgraff became part of Lifetime Brands, Inc. in 2005 and is no longer being made in the United States. You can look up marks by shape in the Marks section of our website, Kovels.com. If you go to the section on Pottery & Porcelain and then look in the section Square, Rectangle & Other Geometric Shapes, you’ll find a similar keystone-shape mark with a dangling letter “P.” The one shown on our website includes the word “York.” Both marks were used by Pfaltzgraff.
