Q: I inherited this beautiful dish years ago and want to find out about the mark on the back. I can’t find this mark on the web. The dish was a wedding gift for my relatives in 1910. Does it have any monetary value?

A: This is a celery dish made by Porcelain Factory Johann Seltmann in Vohenstrauss, Bavaria, Germany. The company was started by Johann and his brother Christian in 1901. Christian left to form his own company in 1910. When Johann died in 1921, his sons ran the business. In 1993, the company merged with two other companies to become SKV Porzellan Union GmbH. This mark was first used from about 1911 to 1932. The celery dish is an unfamiliar but useful shape. It is worth about $30 to $50.
