Q: This plate is one of six passed down from my grandmother. They are embossed and painted with rabbits in different scenes. The back of each plate is stamped “Patented Dec. 4th 1900, Higgins & Seiter, New York” and “Made in France.” Can you give me some information on the maker and current value?

A: Higgins & Seiter was an importer in New York City. It was founded after the Civil War by Charles Jacob Seiter and two brothers, Barton B. and Arthur Higgins. The men formalized their partnership in 1887. China and glass were imported from Europe until World War I broke out. The company went bankrupt in 1915. Value of your French majolica rabbit plates, about $200 each.

I have three of these plates handed down from my grand mother circa 1900 . Do you have any recommendations on who collects these types of plates.

    Thanks
