Q: I have a large plate with this mark. Can you tell me who made it and how old it is?

A: The mark is very similar to a mark used by Oscar Schaller & Co. Nachfolger from c.1918 to 1950. Oscar Schaller founded a pottery in Schwarzenbach-Saale, Bavaria, in 1882. The pottery continued under different names until bankruptcy was declared in 2004. The company was reorganized in 2005 as Neue Porzellanfabrik Triptis G.m.b.H., which is still in business. The word “Elfenbein” on the bottom of your plate is the German word for “ivory.”
