Crown and C Mark

Q: I have a figurine of a little boy and his dog that belonged to my parents, who had it for many, many years. I can’t find any information on the mark. Can you tell me anything about it?

A: Your figurine has the crown mark used by the Cortendorf Porcelain Factory. The factory was founded by Julius Griesbach in Coburg-Cortendorf, Bavaria, Germany, in 1890. “Made in U.S. Zone” indicates this figurine was made between 1945 and 1949, the years when postwar Germany was divided into occupation zones. The factory was taken over by W. Goebel Porcelain Factory in Rodental in 1973 and renamed Cortendorf W. Goebel.
