Colonial Pottery

Q: This plate is part of a set my grandparents had. I have eight complete place settings. The circular mark has “Colonial Pottery, Stoke England” around the letters “FW & Co.” Below that it says “Blenheim, Rd. No. 376854.” I haven’t been able to find any information on the company that made them. Can you help?

 

A: Colonial Pottery was owned by F. Winkel & Co. It was in business in Stoke, Staffordshire, England, from 1890 to 1931. This printed mark was used from 1890 to 1925. “Blenheim” is the name of the pattern. It was made in green, brown, blue green, and a combination of orange and dark blue. The Rd. number is the English design registry number and indicates the design was registered in 1901. Plates retail for about $10-$15 each.
