Q: I have an antique pottery vase that's marked with a lion, crown and wreath above the word "England." I tried to find it in your index of Animal marks on Kovels.com, but it wasn't there. Can you identify the maker?

A: The mark can be found in the Marks section of our website under "Crown & Circle & Oval." The initials "H" and "J" below the wreath are a clue to the maker. A.G. Harley Jones of Fenton, Staffordshire, England, used this mark beginning in about 1907. The company was in business from 1907 to 1934.

Hi, I have a very unusual vase that is brown with a tan and brown top and the marks on it are like crossed swords. It was made in Germany and has the numbers 643/12. Can you help me identify this?
