Kovels’ November 2021 newsletter features Loetz glass, Danish rugs, Tommi Parzinger furnishings, Old West strong boxes, and folk art stamp collages, all with photos and prices.

Shimmering Loetz art glass dazzled collectors at a Cincinnati auction and it’s featured in a sale report in Kovels On Antiques & Collectibles November 2021 newsletter. Pictured with prices are examples of Loetz art glass in various shapes and decorations, from iridescent and oil-spot Art Nouveau vases of the late 1800s and early 1900s to later examples that reflect the bold lines and colors of Art Deco tastes.

Modernist designer Tommi Parzinger /sale-reports/high-style-designs-by-tommi-parzinger.htmlcreated elegant home furnishings for retail stores and high-end clients from the 1940s to the ’60s. More than a dozen unique Parzinger pieces sold at auction in Florida. Kovels’ November newsletter pictures some of the stylish, yet multifunctional, Parzinger cabinets, tables, seating, lighting, and other items that were custom designs for a private Palm Beach home and auctioned for thousands.

A recent auction in Los Angeles featured a group of strongboxes that once protected valuables during long journeys on 19th-century stagecoaches, trains and ships. The old, battered boxes proved to be quite valuable themselves. Kovels’ November issue pictures examples including the top-priced Wells Fargo wood and iron strongbox that sold for $10,000. The newsletter also pictures reproduction strongboxes and offers tips on how to tell the difference between an authentic Old West strongbox and one meant to just look old.

An unusual find — a few thousand mid-century Danish rugs that had remained in original shipping containers since they were bought and transported from Denmark in the 1970s — sold in a series of auctions in Virginia. Though 40-plus years old, the Rya wool rugs were in perfect condition and their bright colors and bold patterns will compliment many modern rooms. Find examples of some of the Rya rugs that went home with buyers who paid $600 to $1,700 in Kovels’ latest newsletter.

Last but not least, see pictures of an unusual example of folk or “outsider” art — collages made with postage stamps. The collages were made of both canceled and unused stamps arranged in decorative patterns and enhanced with small photos and newspaper clippings that must have been of interest to the maker. Some collectors love unique items made by untrained hobbyists with every day “found” materials; see how much folk art enthusiasts paid for these in Kovels’ November issue.

The Kovels go “on the road” to Savannah and share favorite sites and finds from the charming southern city. The illustrated November Collector’s Gallery answers readers’ questions about an English coal cabinet, a Stoke-on-Trent platter, a historic photograph, and a political ribbon. The Dictionary of Marks lists popular pressed glass patterns. And more than 70 antiques and collectibles are listed in the November Buyer’s Price Guide.
