Thank you for all your help! Our editors agree with the “hot jar grabber” answers.  We think it is a cooking tool designed to remove a jar from hot water.

You don't have the correct description for this item.
Have you simply forgotten this week's item? No answer for what it is, if you know?

Test tube tongs used to pick up hot tubes off a Bunsen Burner or toxic tubes.

Used to insert or remove pickles from jars?

Looks like it could be used to lift jars from a canner, or whatever we would use simple tongs for today.

Maybe a medical instrument used to open an area during surgery.

looks very much like the clamps we still use in the lab today to move hot test tubes and glassware, etc.

I have one of these in my kitchen, they are used to grab the meat and flip it over. Tongs I guess you would call them. Works great on the BBQ'er.
